Audiobook Demos
"Peter did such a grand job of the first book, that I've invited him back for the second, and he'd done another excellent job. From playground bullies to fussy aunts and sadistic teachers, he's got all the characterisations spot on!"
Jason Ayres - Best selling author of the '1980s, A Year in the Life series'
Voiceover Demos
"Peter was a perfect narrator for my children's audiobook. His fun narration was exactly what I was
hoping for! He was pleasant, professional, quick to respond, and on time with production. I couldn't
have asked for anything more".

Peter J Matthews
Audiobook Narrator - Voice Actor - Character Actor
Hello I'm Peter, a classically trained British voice actor and audiobook narrator with a high quality home studio. I simply love creating character and telling stories.
My natural voice is an easy to listen to soft English RP, that suits a variety of genres. I'm good with accents, including virtually all UK dialects as well a very solid general American.
As a dad of two, I particularly enjoy working on projects for children and love doing crazy character voices!
Outside the studio I'm a huge fan (and occasional player) of cricket. I love long walks up big hills, cinema, theatre and almost all things sci-fi and fantasy.

Recent Work
"We at Fischer would like to thank Peter for the entertaining way in which he has brought our stories to life. Particularly, we admire the skills he has applied to give all of our characters a unique voice. More over, we are very impressed by his in depth knowledge of the audio world and by his on point suggestions.
Hundreds of children in Poland love his characters!"
Magdalena Lipinska - Fischer Education Centre, Poland
Home Studio
I have a small, but very cosy home studio. Fully equipped for high quality professional recording. There's a raw studio sample in my demos (no EQ or noise reduction) so you can hear the the quality of my space and equipment.
Talking tech - I use a Rode NT1 mic, an Audient ID4 interface, Sennheiser studio headphones, Mac hardware,Twisted Wave DAW and iZotope RX Standard.
I'm always happy to provide a short free sample of your book or script, so you can be sure my voice and setup are the right fit for your needs.
Training & Experience
I studied acting on a 3 year diploma at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Webber Douglas was one of London's leading drama schools until its merger with the Central School of Speech and Drama in 2006.
As an audiobook narrator I've been coached by award winning narrator Ana Clements,
graduating from her 'Audiobook Industry Program' in early 2024.
I've also trained with the following people and organisations:
Rachel Naylor - VoiceOver network
David Thorpe - City Lit
Ahab casting - Penguin Random House
Gordon Griffin - ID Audio
Dian Perry
Abbie Andrews
Brad Shaw - WonderlandVO
I have appeared in numerous stage plays - most recently in "A Good Fist" by Nicholas Fearn in London. Other leading roles have been in productions of Jez Butterworth's Mojo, Terrance Rattigan's Flare Path and Michael Frayn's Copenhagen. I have also worked in TV, radio and short films.
I also write - when I can find the time!
As well as writing my own animation demo 'The B-vengers' (see voiceover demos),
I've also written a couple of 1 act plays, plus a variety of sketches, monologues and short stories.
